BFOIT - Berkeley Foundation for Opportunities in Computer Science

Diversity in Computer Science and Engineering

The Berkeley Foundation for Opportunities in Information Technology (BFOIT) was committed to increasing the number of historically underrepresented ethnic minorities and women pursuing careers in computing and IT. We did so by providing youth with the knowledge, resources, practical programming skills and guidance necessary to pursue bachelors and advanced degrees in computer science and engineering. We worked in partnership with colleagues and organizations in the Bay area to provide educational programs that exposed middle and high school students to the beauty, joy and promising future of computing.

For BFOIT's ten-year anniversary, a short video was produced.

A year later, BFOIT staff members wrote a paper detailing the approach taken and summarizing the results seen since inception. It is available HERE

BFOIT's introduction to programming curriculum, which is web-based, is available HERE .
